The Rural Municipality of Connaught No. 457 began as Local Improvement District No. 457. On December 11, 1911, it incorporated as a rural municipality, taking the name Connaught.
Within its boundaries lie the village of Ridgedale and the hamlets of Armley, Carlea and Leacross. The RM is run by an elected council and an appointed administrator, who meet on the second Wednesday of each month, and its office is located in Tisdale.
